Report to Board of Oversight suggests YM visit
At its annual meetings in Berkeley, Calif., the Western Association of the Religious Society of Friends (WARSF) discussed “the impending division of Northwest Yearly Meeting (NWYM)” and approved a proposal to “open and continue a dialogue with the congregations that are leaving NWYM.” In his report back to the Board of Oversight, Brian Young wrote that “the annual sessions of NWYM might be a better opportunity” for discussing possible affiliation.
“YM sessions are generally open to having visitors from other Friends groups,” Young wrote, “and sometimes are quite good at welcoming such visitors.” He offered as his reason for not attending the meeting in Eugene earlier this month that “the group that is leaving NWYM has no clear sense of what they want in terms of continuing affiliation.”
